SchoolConnect Privacy Policy

Schools that use SchoolConnect decide which pupils and parents are registered and which school records are entered, such as attendance, results and fees. We operate the service on the school’s behalf. For questions about a specific record, contact your child’s school. For anything about this policy or the app, contact us using the details at the end of this page.

• Parent account details — your name, email address and phone number, entered by your school when it creates your account. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication and are never stored by us in readable form.
• Your children’s school records — name, class, student number and school, together with attendance, academic results, fee balances and payments recorded by the school.
• Notifications — announcements and alerts sent to you, and whether you have read them.
• Device push token — an identifier issued by Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can deliver notifications to your phone.
• Crash and diagnostic reports — if the app crashes or hits an error, technical details (device model, Android version, app version and what the app was doing) are sent to our error-monitoring provider so we can fix the problem.

The app does not collect your location, contacts, photos or files, and it contains no advertising or advertising identifiers.

• To show you your children’s attendance, results, fees and school announcements.
• To send push notifications, SMS and emails about absences, results, payments and announcements.
• To secure your account, keep the service running and fix errors.

We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Information is available only to you, to authorised staff at your child’s school, and to the service providers that run SchoolConnect for us:

• Google Firebase (Google LLC) — sign-in, database and push notifications
• Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — crash and error reports
• WizaSMS — SMS delivery in Uganda
• Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES) — email delivery

These providers use the information only to provide their services to us. We may also disclose information where the law requires it. Some providers store data on servers outside Uganda.

All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Access rules ensure a parent can see records only for the children linked to their account, and school staff can see only their own school’s records.

The SchoolConnect app is intended for parents and guardians. Children do not use the app and do not have accounts. Information about pupils is provided by their school and shown only to their linked parents and to that school’s staff.

• School records are kept for as long as the school uses SchoolConnect, or as the school instructs.
• When a parent account is deleted, we remove the account details, device push tokens and notification inbox within 30 days. Records the school must keep, such as fee payments, remain with the school.
• Crash and diagnostic reports are deleted automatically within 90 days.

Under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you may ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, or object to how it is used. Your school can correct your contact details, or you can contact us. You can turn off notifications at any time in your phone’s settings.

If we change this policy we will update this page and the effective date above, and tell you in the app or by email when the change is significant.
